When Eyebrook approached me to examine their current website they already had a successful e-commerce store trading online for the past 8 years. But the success had outgrown the capabilities of their current site and so I proposed a complete redesign and shift to WordPress and WooCommerce to power both their blogging and e-commerce requirements.
Generally speaking, Eyebrooks customers are of an older age group and so the site design and layout needed to be sympathetic to this demographic and follow a number of key rules:
- Retain the blue colour and similar typeface to keep the site familiar for returning visitors
- To use clear and readable fonts throughout, with high contrast for accessibility
- Signpost navigation of the site in a non-intrusive way
- Make shopping and purchasing steps obvious and easy to follow with clear confirmations along the way
Since the site went live I have continued to extend the functionality of the site along with the expanding commercial needs of Eyebrook, a wonderful family-run farming business that I can’t wait to visit someday. I have been promised a home-cooked lunch from the farm cafe when I do…
